COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Dean’s Scholar) with a Digital Systems Security major at the University of Wollongong is a 144-credit point advanced undergraduate program designed for high-achieving students who want to specialise in secure computing systems while also preparing for honours and research pathways. The degree begins with 78 credit points of core computer science subjects that provide a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, data structures, computer systems, networking, databases, web technologies, systems analysis, human–computer interaction, and project management. These core subjects develop essential technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills required for advanced study in digital security. Students also complete 6 credit points of core selection subjects, allowing limited flexibility within related computing areas. A further 6-credit point Dean’s Scholar component is included to encourage deeper academic engagement, critical thinking, and preparation for postgraduate research. In the final year, students complete a 12-credit point capstone annual project where they work in teams to solve real-world computing and security challenges using industry-style methods and collaborative practices. The 24-credit point Digital Systems Security major focuses on protecting digital information and systems in modern computing environments. Key areas include operating systems security, physical and data protection, system architecture, heterogeneous computing, cryptography and its secure applications, and network and telecommunications security. The program also emphasizes practical learning through real-world projects and engagement with industry perspectives. Overall, it prepares graduates for careers in cyber security, systems protection, IT security analysis, and advanced computing roles, along with pathways to honours and research studies.
