COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Cyber Security) at the University of Wollongong is a 144-credit point undergraduate degree designed to develop strong technical and analytical skills in computing with a specialised focus on protecting digital systems and networks. The program is delivered over three years of full-time study and includes a combination of core computer science subjects, core selection subjects, a capstone project, and a cyber security major. Students complete 78 credit points of core subjects that provide foundational knowledge in programming, algorithms, data structures, software development, computer systems, and networking principles. These core subjects build the essential technical base required for advanced cyber security study. In addition, students complete 6 credit points of core selection subjects, allowing some flexibility to explore related areas within computing. A major component of the degree is the 24-credit point Cyber Security major, where students study key topics such as systems security, network security, Internet of Things (IoT) security, blockchain technologies, reverse engineering, obfuscation techniques, and ethical hacking practices. The program also includes training in penetration testing and security analysis, preparing students to identify and mitigate cyber threats. In the final year, students complete a 12-credit point capstone annual project where they work in teams to solve real-world cyber security problems and apply their technical skills in practical scenarios. Overall, the curriculum prepares graduates for careers in cyber security, ethical hacking, information assurance, risk management, and IT security roles across government, defence, finance, and private industry sectors.
