COURSE CURRICULUM

The Screen Media Production major within the Bachelor of Communication and Media at the University of Wollongong is a 48-credit point specialisation designed to build strong practical and theoretical skills in screen production and visual storytelling. In Year 1, students begin with 12 credit points of introductory subjects, including Introduction to Screen Media (BCM115) and Introduction to Immersive Media (BCM116), where they learn the foundations of video production, digital storytelling, and emerging immersive technologies. In Year 2, students complete 12 credit points, including Documentary (BCM217), which develops skills in real-world storytelling and factual production, along with one elective subject chosen from options such as Digital Asia, Transmedia Storytelling, or Transnational Media and Culture Industries, allowing students to explore global and digital media contexts. In Year 3, students complete 24 credit points of advanced study. This includes Collaborative Production Workshop (BCM303), where students work in teams to produce professional-level media projects, and Australian Content, Global Context (BCM331), which examines national screen production in an international industry environment. In the final stage, students complete Advanced Screen Media Project (BCM304) and Hollywood and Beyond (BCM333), focusing on advanced production techniques and global screen industries. Overall, the curriculum builds technical, creative, and analytical skills, preparing students for careers in film, television, digital media, content creation, and screen production industries.
