COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication and Media at the Wollongong Campus is a 144-credit point undergraduate degree designed to develop students’ communication, media production, and digital storytelling skills through a combination of core subjects, specialised study, and flexible electives. The course begins with Year 1 core subjects worth 18 credit points, where students build foundational knowledge in communication, media studies, content creation, and digital technologies. In Year 2 and Year 3, students complete additional core subjects worth 6 credit points each year, focusing on advanced communication practices, professional skills, and industry understanding. A major component of the degree is the 48-credit point major, which allows students to specialise in a chosen communication or media field. The major is progressively structured, beginning with 6 credit points in Year 1, expanding to 18 credit points in Year 2, and then 24 credit points in Year 3, enabling students to gradually develop advanced expertise and practical skills in their area of interest. Students also complete a 24-credit point minor, allowing them to broaden their knowledge or gain complementary skills from another discipline. Additional elective subjects provide further flexibility to customise the degree according to personal interests and career goals. Throughout the program, students gain practical, hands-on experience through creative projects, collaborative learning, and media production activities using modern industry-standard facilities and technologies.
