COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Engineering (Mining Engineering specialisation) is designed to develop advanced technical knowledge, practical mining skills, and professional engineering capabilities required for careers in the mining and resources industry. The core component includes essential mining engineering units such as Underground Mining, Surface Mining, Rock Mechanics, Mineral Resources, Geotechnology of Mine Waste, Mining Management, Mine Ventilation, and a two-part Mining Engineering Design Project. These units provide a strong foundation in mine planning, extraction methods, geotechnical stability, resource evaluation, ventilation systems, and safe and efficient mining operations. The program also focuses on applying engineering principles to real mining environments, ensuring students develop both technical expertise and industry-ready problem-solving skills. In addition, students select elective units worth 18 credit points from areas such as financial accounting, business communication, mineral processing, data science, geomechanics, economics, employment relations, management, organisational behaviour, mining engineering services, and renewable energy systems. This flexibility allows students to gain interdisciplinary knowledge relevant to mining operations, sustainability, workforce management, and resource economics. Overall, the curriculum integrates mining engineering fundamentals, geotechnical science, resource management, safety systems, and business-related skills to prepare graduates for professional roles in underground and surface mining, mineral resource development, mine planning, and leadership positions within the global mining and resources industry.
