COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Engineering (Mechanical Engineering specialisation) is designed to provide advanced technical knowledge, analytical capability, and professional engineering skills required for careers in mechanical design, manufacturing, energy systems, robotics, and industrial engineering. The core component includes essential engineering units such as Control Engineering, Numerical Methods and Modelling, Finite Element Method, Measurement and Noise, Vibration and Sound, Degradation of Materials, Applied Engineering Thermodynamics, Analysis and Design of Machine Components, and a two-part Mechanical Engineering Design Project. These units develop strong expertise in mechanical system design, structural analysis, dynamics, materials behaviour, and thermal systems while also strengthening computational and experimental engineering skills. The program integrates theoretical foundations with practical design applications, enabling students to solve complex mechanical engineering problems using modern tools and techniques. The specialisation also offers elective units that allow students to broaden their knowledge in areas such as robotics, biomaterials, biomechanics, particle technology, transport phenomena, mineral processing, combustion science, offshore engineering, environmental engineering, and renewable energy systems. Additional interdisciplinary options include control systems, acoustics, materials failure analysis, ocean engineering, petroleum engineering, and sustainability-focused engineering topics.
