COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Engineering (Environmental Engineering specialisation) is designed to develop advanced technical knowledge, analytical skills, and professional expertise required to address complex environmental challenges in water, air, land, and climate systems. The core component includes key engineering and environmental science units such as Contaminant Fate and Transport, Engineering Hydrology, Fluid Transport, Mixing and Dispersion, Ecological Engineering and Nature-based Solutions, Advanced Environmental Modelling, and a two-part Environmental Engineering Design Solutions project. These units build strong foundations in understanding how pollutants move through natural systems, how water resources are managed, and how engineering solutions can be designed to protect and restore the environment. Students also study Numerical Methods and Modelling, which supports advanced computational analysis of environmental systems. The specialisation is further strengthened through elective units covering areas such as water and wastewater engineering, environmental economics, geographic information systems, remote sensing, environmental monitoring and sensors, spatial and environmental modelling, climate geoscience, hydrogeological systems, water in a changing climate, fossil fuel transition, coastal and offshore engineering, renewable energy, and ocean engineering. Additional interdisciplinary options include environmental geotechnics, mining waste management, and sustainability-focused problem-solving units. Overall, the curriculum integrates environmental science, engineering design, data analysis, and sustainability principles to prepare graduates for professional roles in environmental consulting, water resource management, climate adaptation, renewable energy systems, and environmental protection industries worldwide.
