COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Engineering (Civil Engineering specialisation) is designed to develop advanced technical knowledge, analytical ability, and professional engineering skills required for careers in infrastructure, construction, transport, water systems, and geotechnical engineering. The core component includes essential engineering units such as Applied Geomechanics, Fluid Mechanics for Civil Engineers, Structural Concrete, Structural Steel, Engineering Surveying and Design, and a Civil Structural Design Project. Students also study Numerical Methods and Modelling and Finite Element Method, which strengthen their ability to analyse and solve complex engineering problems using computational techniques. These core units build a strong foundation in structural analysis, materials behaviour, and engineering design principles. The specialisation is further enhanced through elective units that allow students to focus on specific civil engineering areas such as transportation and pavement engineering, structural dynamics, underground construction, offshore geomechanics, coastal and offshore engineering, environmental geotechnics, hydrology, and water and wastewater engineering. Students can also complete infrastructure design projects or interdisciplinary subjects such as communication skills and complex problem-solving in engineering contexts. Overall, the curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge, practical design experience, computational modelling, and industry-relevant applications to prepare graduates for professional roles in civil engineering sectors, including infrastructure development, construction management, environmental engineering, and large-scale public works projects.
