COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Physics course structure is designed to develop advanced expertise in applying physics to medicine, particularly in imaging, radiation therapy, and clinical diagnostics. The core component includes essential units such as Anatomy and Biology for Medical Physicists, Medical Imaging Physics, Radiation Biology and Protection, Radiotherapy Physics, and Radiation Physics and Dosimetry, providing a strong foundation in the scientific and clinical principles of medical physics. A major feature of the program is the Medical Physics Dissertation, completed over four sequential units, which allows students to engage in in-depth research and develop advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Students also select optional units in areas such as computer vision, machine learning, computational modelling, numerical methods, risk and safety, biostatistics, and scientific communication, enabling interdisciplinary skill development. For students without a prior physics background, conversion units may be required, covering fundamental and advanced topics in physics, mathematics, computing, and statistics to ensure readiness for postgraduate-level study. These may include quantum physics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, computational thinking, and data science. Overall, the course integrates physics, engineering, computing, and biomedical science to prepare graduates for careers in medical imaging, radiation therapy, healthcare technology, and medical research, with strong emphasis on both theoretical understanding and practical application in clinical and research environments.
