COURSE CURRICULUM

The Juris Doctor (JD) study plan is designed as a structured, sequential program that develops legal knowledge and professional skills over three years of full-time study or up to nine years part-time. The curriculum is carefully scaffolded to ensure progressive learning, beginning with foundational legal principles and advancing toward specialised and professional practice. In Year 1, students study core introductory units including Foundations of Law and Lawyering, Criminal Law, Contract, Property, Foundations of Public Law, Torts, Interpretation, and Land Law, providing essential grounding in key areas of legal doctrine and reasoning. Year 2 builds on this foundation with more advanced subjects such as Dispute Resolution, Constitutional Law, Equity and Trusts, Corporations Law, Remedies, and Administrative Law, along with elective options that allow for early specialisation. In Year 3, students focus on professional readiness and advanced legal study through units including Professional and Ethical Practice, Evidence, and Procedure, alongside multiple elective options to tailor their degree to individual interests. The program emphasises rigorous academic study, practical skill development, and ethical understanding of legal practice. Students are expected to manage a significant workload, with a full-time commitment of approximately 46 hours per week. Overall, the JD prepares graduates for professional legal practice through a structured combination of core legal disciplines, advanced study, and applied legal training.
