COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics major is structured across three levels, combining mathematics, computational skills, theoretical physics, and practical scientific understanding. At Level 1, students build strong foundational knowledge through units such as CITS1401 Computational Thinking with Python, MATH1011 Multivariable Calculus, MATH1012 Mathematical Theory and Methods, PHYS1001 Physics for Scientists and Engineers, and PHYS1002 Modern Physics. These subjects develop problem-solving, programming, and analytical skills essential for advanced physics study. Bridging units, including MATH1722 Mathematics Foundations: Specialist and PHYS1030 Physics Bridging Unit, are available for students who require additional preparation in mathematics or physics. At Level 2, students deepen their understanding of advanced scientific concepts through MATH2501 Advanced Mathematical Methods, PHYS2001 Quantum Physics and Electromagnetism, and PHYS2002 Many Particle Systems, focusing on quantum theory, electromagnetism, and the behavior of complex systems. Level 3 emphasizes advanced theoretical and mathematical physics with PHYS3001 Quantum Mechanics, PHYS3002 Electrodynamics and Relativity, and PHYS3011 Mathematical Physics. Students also choose an elective unit such as Astrophysics and Space Science, Quantum Computation, Atomic and Nuclear Physics, or Topics in Contemporary Physics. Together, the course provides rigorous scientific training and prepares students for careers in research, technology, engineering, and advanced scientific industries.
