COURSE CURRICULUM

The Marine and Coastal Processes course is structured across three levels to build strong foundations in earth science, marine systems, and environmental analysis, progressing toward advanced coastal and ocean studies. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including BIOL1131 Plant and Animal Biology (6 points), which covers basic biological systems, CITS1501 Introduction to Programming with Python (6 points), which develops fundamental coding and data skills, EART1105 Dynamic Planet (6 points), which introduces Earth systems and geological processes, and SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis (6 points), which builds scientific literacy and data interpretation skills. Students may also complete bridging mathematics units such as MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points) or MATH1721 Mathematics Foundations: Methods (6 points), depending on prior academic background. In Level 2, core study includes EART2204 Coastal Processes (6 points), ENVT2220 The Climate System (6 points), GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6 points), and SCIE2204 Marine Systems (6 points), which provide a strong understanding of coastal dynamics, climate interactions, and spatial analysis. In Level 3, students advance to specialised study through ENVT3306 Coastal Conservation and Management (6 points), ENVT3307 Oceanography (6 points), ENVT3362 Environmental Dynamics (6 points), and SCIE3304 Field Techniques in Marine Science (6 points), developing practical and analytical skills for marine research and environmental management.
