COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure in Earth and Marine Sciences is designed to progressively build strong scientific knowledge, field skills, and analytical expertise through a combination of biology, geology, environmental science, and data analysis. At Level 1, students complete core units such as Plant and Animal Biology, Discovering Earth, Dynamic Planet, Science, Society and Data Analysis, and Communicating Science, which introduce foundational concepts in Earth systems, biological processes, and scientific communication. Bridging units in mathematics and analytical methods are available for students who need additional preparation, ensuring readiness for advanced scientific study. At Level 2, the focus shifts to more specialised geoscience and environmental studies, including Coastal Processes, Earth Materials, Field Geology, Earth Processes, Hydrology and Water Resource Management, Marine Systems, and Computer Analysis and Visualisation. These units develop practical skills in fieldwork, environmental analysis, and data interpretation. Level 3 provides advanced training in geoscience and marine science through subjects such as Geochemistry and Petrology, Structural Geology and Tectonics, Geological Mapping, Oceanography, Environmental Dynamics, and Field Techniques in Marine Science. The program emphasizes hands-on field experience, laboratory work, and advanced analytical methods, preparing graduates for careers in geology, marine science, environmental consultancy, natural resource management, and government or research roles in Earth and marine sciences.
