COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geographical Sciences course is structured to progressively build knowledge and skills in understanding physical environments, human systems, and the interactions between them. In Level 1, students complete foundational core units including GEOG1104 Disasters! (6 points), which examines natural and human-induced hazards, GEOG1106 Climate Change: Environment and Society (6 points), focusing on environmental change and its social impacts, and SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis (6 points), which introduces scientific thinking and data interpretation skills. Students may also need to complete bridging mathematics or analytical units such as MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points), MATH1721 Mathematics Foundations: Methods (6 points), or SCIE1500 Analytical Methods for Scientists (6 points), depending on prior academic background. In Level 2, students advance to core subjects including ENVT2220 The Climate System (6 points), ENVT2251 Hydrology and Water Resource Management (6 points), GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6 points), and GEOG2202 Reading Landscapes: People and Processes (6 points), which combine environmental science with spatial analysis. In Level 3, the program focuses on advanced applications through ENVT3306 Coastal Conservation and Management (6 points), GEOG3300 Advanced Spatial Analysis (6 points), GEOG3301 Advanced GIS and Remote Sensing (6 points), and GEOG3303 Environmental Policy and Planning (6 points). This structure develops strong technical, analytical, and policy-related skills for environmental and geographical careers.
