COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Science course is structured across three levels to build a strong foundation in natural systems, scientific analysis, and environmental management. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including BIOL1131 Plant and Animal Biology (6 points), which covers the diversity and function of living organisms, ENVT1104 Environmental Science and Technology (6 points), which introduces key environmental processes and issues, SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis (6 points), which develops scientific reasoning and data interpretation skills, and SCOM1101 Communicating Science (6 points), which focuses on effective communication of scientific ideas. Depending on prior background, students may also complete bridging units such as CHEM1003 Introductory Chemistry (6 points), MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points), or SCIE1500 Analytical Methods for Scientists (6 points). In Level 2, core studies include ENVT2220 The Climate System (6 points), ENVT2236 Soil Science (6 points), ENVT2251 Hydrology and Water Resource Management (6 points), and GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6 points), which provide technical and analytical skills for understanding environmental processes. In Level 3, advanced units such as ENVT3338 Land Capability Assessment (6 points), ENVT3339 Land Rehabilitation (6 points), ENVT3361 Environmental Assessment (6 points), and ENVT3362 Environmental Dynamics (6 points) focus on solving real-world environmental problems. This structure prepares students for careers in environmental management, sustainability, and scientific research.
