COURSE CURRICULUM

The Conservation Biology course is structured across three levels to build a strong foundation in biological sciences, ecology, and environmental management, with a focus on protecting biodiversity and reducing human impacts on ecosystems. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including BIOL1130 Frontiers in Biology (6 points), which explores major concepts and discoveries in modern biology, BIOL1131 Plant and Animal Biology (6 points), which introduces the structure, function, and diversity of living organisms, SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis (6 points), which develops scientific reasoning and data interpretation skills, and SCOM1101 Communicating Science (6 points), which builds effective communication skills for scientific contexts. Students may also complete bridging mathematics or analytical units such as MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points), MATH1721 Mathematics Foundations: Methods (6 points), or SCIE1500 Analytical Methods for Scientists (6 points), depending on prior achievement. In Level 2, core studies include BIOL2261 Conservation Biology (6 points), ENVT2221 Global Climate Change and Biodiversity (6 points), ENVT2250 Ecology (6 points), and GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6 points), combining biological and spatial analysis skills. In Level 3, advanced units such as ANIM3353 Wildlife Conservation and Management (6 points), BIOL3360 Saving Endangered Species (6 points), BIOL3364 Evolutionary Processes (6 points), and GEOG3303 Environmental Policy and Planning (6 points) prepare students for professional roles in conservation, research, and environmental management.
