COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science major is structured across three progressive levels, designed to build strong foundations in programming, systems, and advanced computing concepts. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including CITS1003 Introduction to Cybersecurity (6 points), which covers basic security principles, CITS1401 Computational Thinking with Python (6 points), focusing on programming fundamentals using Python, and CITS1402 Relational Database Management Systems (6 points), which introduces data storage and database design. Students may also take a bridging unit such as MATH1721 Mathematics Foundations: Methods (6 points) if required to strengthen mathematical skills. In Level 2, the program develops core computer science skills through CITS2002 Systems Programming (6 points), CITS2005 Object Oriented Programming (6 points), CITS2200 Data Structures and Algorithms (6 points), and CITS2211 Discrete Structures (6 points), building expertise in software design, logic, and computational theory. In Level 3, students advance to specialised and professional topics including CITS3001 Advanced Algorithms (6 points), CITS3002 Computer Networks (6 points), CITS3200 Professional Computing (6 points), and CITS3403 Agile Web Development (6 points). They also choose one elective worth 6 points from options such as graphics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high performance computing, or industry internship units. This structure ensures a strong progression from foundational programming to advanced, industry-relevant computing skills and professional practice.
