COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nutritional Biochemistry course is structured over three levels to build a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, physiology, and advanced biochemical and nutritional science. In Level 1, students complete core foundational units including BIOC1001 Introductory Cellular Biochemistry (6 points), CHEM1001 Chemistry—Properties and Energetics (6 points), PHYL1001 Physiology—How your body works (6 points), and SCIE1106 Molecular Biology of the Cell (6 points), which introduce key concepts in human biology and molecular science. Students also select an additional 6-point unit from SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis or STAT1400 Statistics for Science, depending on their focus. Bridging units such as CHEM1003 Introductory Chemistry, MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals, and MATH1721 Mathematics Foundations: Methods may be required depending on prior qualifications. In Level 2, students study core units including BIOC2001 Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the Cell (6 points), BIOC2002 Biochemical Regulation of Cell Function (6 points), PHYL2002 Cellular Physiology (6 points), and SSEH2260 Exercise Physiology (6 points), which deepen understanding of cellular and physiological processes. In Level 3, students undertake advanced study through a wide range of units including BIOC3001 Molecular Biology, BIOC3003 Omics—Global Approaches to Cell Function, BIOC3004 Nutritional Biochemistry, BIOC3005 Cellular Biochemistry, PHYL3001 Experimental Physiology, PHYL3002 Clinical Physiology, PHYL3003 Nutritional and Metabolic Physiology, and PHYL3004 Extreme Environmental Physiology (all 6 points each), developing expertise in advanced biochemical and physiological systems relevant to nutrition and health sciences.
