COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Economics Extended Major is structured across three levels and builds a strong foundation in economics, finance, and quantitative analysis. At Level 1, students complete core introductory units in Microeconomics: Prices and Markets, Macroeconomics: Money and Finance, Introduction to Finance, and Economic and Business Statistics. Students who require additional preparation in mathematics may also complete a bridging unit in Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics. At Level 2, the program develops more advanced understanding through core units including Microeconomics: Policy and Applications, Macroeconomics: Policy and Applications, Introductory Econometrics, Intermediate Mathematics for Economists, and Corporate Financial Policy. These units strengthen analytical, mathematical, and financial decision-making skills. At Level 3, students undertake specialised study through core units such as International Finance, Money, Banking and Financial Markets, Applied Econometric Methods and Data Analysis, and Investment Analysis. They also select electives from areas including International Trade, Game Theory and Strategic Thinking, Applied Microeconomics, Applied Macroeconomics, Banking: Theory and Practice, Trading in Securities Markets, Applied Financial Management, and an optional Work Integrated Learning Internship Program. Overall, the major develops expertise in financial systems, economic analysis, and quantitative methods, preparing graduates for careers in banking, investment management, financial consulting, central banking, and global financial markets.
