COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Economics major is structured across three levels and is designed to build strong analytical, mathematical, and policy-focused economic skills. At Level 1, students complete core foundational units including Microeconomics: Prices and Markets, Macroeconomics: Money and Finance, Introduction to Finance, and Economic and Business Statistics. These units provide essential grounding in economic theory, financial principles, and statistical analysis. Students who have not met required mathematical standards may also complete a bridging unit in Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics. At Level 2, the focus shifts to more advanced economic theory and quantitative methods through core units such as Microeconomics: Policy and Applications, Macroeconomics: Policy and Applications, Introductory Econometrics, and Intermediate Mathematics for Economists. Students also select from options including Rise of the Global Economy, Asia in the World Economy, Monetary Economics, Business Economics, and Practical Finance Analytics. At Level 3, students undertake advanced study through Applied Microeconomics, Applied Macroeconomics, and Applied Econometric Methods and Data Analysis. They also choose electives such as Health Economics, International Trade, Game Theory and Strategic Thinking, Economic Policy, and Work Integrated Learning Internship Program. Overall, the major develops strong theoretical understanding, quantitative expertise, and applied analytical skills for careers in economics, policy, finance, consulting, and research.
