COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting major is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in financial reporting, management accounting, economics, finance, law, and business analysis, preparing them for professional accreditation and careers in accounting and related fields. At Level 1, students complete core introductory units including Financial Accounting and Introduction to Finance, which build essential knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems. At Level 2, students study Management Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, and may also take Taxation, developing skills in internal reporting, financial analysis, and business decision-making systems. Level 3 offers advanced and specialised study, where students select from units such as Contemporary Managerial Accounting, Performance Measurement and Evaluation, Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Accounting: Theory and Practice, Auditing, and Strategic Management Accounting, with a requirement to include at least one advanced accounting unit. The course also integrates supporting disciplines including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Economics and Business Statistics, Introduction to Law, and Company Law, ensuring students understand the broader business environment in which accounting operates. Overall, the major combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, enabling students to analyse financial information, evaluate business performance, and apply accounting standards in real-world contexts. It prepares graduates for careers in accounting, auditing, taxation, consulting, financial management, and professional practice.
