COURSE CURRICULUM

The Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice (IMSCP) extended major is a specialised pathway available only to students who are offered an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Medicine at the time of admission. This program provides a comprehensive foundation in biomedical and health sciences, preparing students for advanced medical training. It covers a wide range of disciplines including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, haematology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and public health, ensuring students develop a broad and integrated understanding of human health and disease. Throughout the course, strong emphasis is placed on communication skills, research capability, and professional development for future healthcare practice. Students also engage with important social and cultural aspects of healthcare in Australia, including Aboriginal health and the health needs of migrant and refugee communities, promoting culturally responsive medical practice. A distinctive feature of the IMSCP major is its flexibility in the first two years, allowing students to complete eight broadening and elective units in areas such as humanities, business, languages, environmental science, social sciences, or additional scientific studies, enabling a well-rounded education. Students may also participate in study abroad opportunities. Importantly, only those who successfully complete the IMSCP extended major are eligible for credit toward the Doctor of Medicine, leading to a shorter six-year pathway, making this program a key route into medical training and professional practice.
