COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is structured as a progressive pathway that builds strong foundations in biomedical and dental sciences before introducing advanced clinical dentistry. In Level 1 (Year 1), students complete core introductory units including IMED1001 Form and Function (6 points), which explores basic human anatomy and physiology, IMED1002 The Facts of Life (6 points), focusing on reproduction and human development, IMED1003 Cell Survival and Communication (6 points), which introduces cellular biology and signalling, and IMED1004 Health and Society (6 points), which examines health systems and social influences on wellbeing. Students who do not meet prerequisite requirements in Chemistry or Mathematics must also complete CHEM1003 Introductory Chemistry (6 points) and/or MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points). In Level 2 (Year 2), students advance to more specialised medical sciences through IMED2001 Body Defences (6 points), IMED2002 Blood and Drugs (6 points), IMED2003 Medical Sciences Research Methodologies (6 points), and IMED2004 Human Development and Genetics (6 points), building a deeper understanding of human biology and research skills. In Level 3 (Year 3), the program transitions into dentistry-focused study with units such as DENT3001 Body Systems 1 (6 points), DENT3002 Body Systems 2 (6 points), DENT3003 Anatomy and Oral Sciences (6 points), DENT3004 Introduction to Clinical Dentistry (6 points), DENT3005 General Medicine and Pharmacology (6 points), DENT3006 Biofilm Sciences and Cariology (6 points), DENT3007 Fundamentals of Clinical Dentistry 1 (6 points), and DENT3008 Dental Public Health and Research Methodology (6 points), preparing students for clinical dental training.
