COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health major is structured across three levels and focuses on understanding health and disease at a population level, with an emphasis on prevention, policy, and evidence-based practice. At Level 1, students complete core units including Health and Illness in Human Populations and Foundations of Global Health, which introduce key concepts in population health, global health challenges, and the social and environmental factors that influence wellbeing. A bridging unit in Mathematics Fundamentals may be required for students needing additional quantitative preparation. At Level 2, students build applied knowledge through core units such as Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, Foundations of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Disease Prevention and Control, and Communication and Project Planning in Health. These units develop skills in data analysis, health communication, and understanding health disparities, particularly in Indigenous populations and global contexts. At Level 3, students undertake advanced study in Health Leadership, Health Promotion, Health Research Design and Methods, and Health Systems and Policy, focusing on health planning, research methodologies, and system-level decision-making. Across all levels, the course develops strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Overall, the major prepares graduates for careers in public health practice, epidemiology, health promotion, policy development, research, and healthcare management aimed at improving population health outcomes.
