COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacology course is structured across three levels to build a strong foundation in molecular biology, chemistry, and human physiology before progressing into advanced drug action and toxicology studies. In Level 1, students complete core introductory study in SCIE1106 Molecular Biology of the Cell (6 points), which introduces cellular structure and function, along with optional units such as BIOC1001 Introductory Cellular Biochemistry (6 points) or CHEM1002 Chemistry—Structure and Reactivity (6 points), depending on academic background. Bridging units may also be required, including ANHB1101 Human Biology I, BIOL1130 Frontiers in Biology, CHEM1003 Introductory Chemistry, or MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals, to ensure students have the necessary scientific and mathematical foundation. In Level 2, students undertake core units PHAR2210 Foundations of Pharmacology (6 points) and PHAR2220 Systems Pharmacology (6 points), which introduce how drugs interact with the human body and affect different physiological systems. In Level 3, students progress to advanced study through PHAR3310 Applied Molecular Pharmacology (6 points), PHAR3311 Applied Molecular Pharmacology Methods (6 points), PHAR3320 Translational Pharmacology and Toxicology (6 points), and PHAR3321 Translational Pharmacology and Toxicology Methods (6 points), focusing on drug development, toxicity, and clinical applications. This structure equips students with strong analytical, laboratory, and research skills for careers in biomedical science, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare research.
