COURSE CURRICULUM

The Neuroscience major within the Bachelor of Biomedical Science is structured across three levels, building progressively from foundational knowledge to advanced understanding of the nervous system. At Level 1, students complete core units including Neuroscience in Society and Psychology: Mind and Brain, which introduce basic concepts of brain function, behaviour, and the role of neuroscience in society. Students also select additional foundational units from Human Biology I and II, Frontiers in Biology, Physiology – How Your Body Works, or Molecular Biology of the Cell, providing a strong base in human biology and cellular processes. Bridging units in mathematics or chemistry may be required for students who need additional preparation. At Level 2, students focus on core neuroscience topics through Human Neurobiology, Cellular Physiology, and Cognitive Neuroscience, which explore brain structure, cell function, and the biological basis of cognition. At Level 3, students undertake advanced study in Comparative Neurobiology, Advanced Neuroscience 1 and 2, and Neuroscience, developing deeper expertise in brain systems, neural mechanisms, and current research in the field. Overall, the course integrates biology, psychology, and physiology to provide a comprehensive understanding of the nervous system, preparing students for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and neuroscience-related industries.
