COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Humanities course is structured across three levels to integrate humanities, social sciences, and health studies, preparing students for careers in healthcare and related fields. In Level 1, students complete a bridging unit if required, such as MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points), along with 12 points of introductory options chosen from a wide range of disciplines including ANTH1001 Being Human: Culture, Identity and Society, ENGL1902 Reading Bodies, HART1003 Ways of Seeing, INDG1150 Aboriginal Encounters, LAWS1111 Law in Context, NEUR1001 Neuroscience in Society, PHIL1002 Introduction to Critical Thinking, PSYC1102 Psychology: Behaviour in Context, PUBH1101 Health and Illness in Human Populations, or PUBH1102 Foundations of Global Health. In Level 2, students complete the core unit BMED2001 Humanities in Health and Medicine (6 points), which introduces the role of humanities in healthcare, and choose 12 points from options such as AHEA2201 Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, ARTF2031 Living Art, IMED2200 Mental Wellbeing for Today’s World, LAWS2220 Birth, Life and Death: Health and Medical Law, PHIL2001 Bioethics, or PUBH2204 Disease Prevention and Control. In Level 3, students undertake advanced core study through BMED3001 Narrative Medicine, BMED3002 Application of Humanities to Health Care, and BMED3003 Person-Centred Health Care (each 6 points), along with an optional internship unit such as SVLG3003 McCusker Centre for Citizenship Internship (6 points). This structure develops ethical, reflective, and communication skills essential for modern healthcare practice.
