COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Genomics major is structured across three progressive levels, building students’ understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and data-driven approaches to modern healthcare. At Level 1, students complete core foundational units including Introductory Cellular Biochemistry, Science, Society and Data Analysis, and Molecular Biology of the Cell, which introduce essential concepts in cell biology, scientific reasoning, and data interpretation. At Level 2, students study Functional Genomics, Principles of Inheritance, and Research Methods in Human Health, developing knowledge of how genes function, how traits are inherited, and how research is conducted in medical and health contexts. These units also strengthen skills in experimental design and analytical thinking. At Level 3, students undertake advanced study in Genes, Development and Disease, Personalised Medicine, and Big Data in Human Health. These units focus on how genetic information influences development and disease, and how genomic data is used to create personalised healthcare solutions. They also explore the use of large-scale data analysis in modern biomedical research. Across all levels, the course integrates laboratory work, scientific theory, and computational approaches, preparing students for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, healthcare innovation, and further postgraduate study in genomics or related medical fields.
