COURSE CURRICULUM

The Exercise and Health course is structured across three levels to build a strong foundation in human physiology, exercise science, nutrition, and health promotion, progressing toward advanced applied practice in physical activity and wellbeing. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including PHYL1001 Physiology – How Your Body Works (6 points), which explores how the human body functions, SSEH1101 The Musculoskeletal System and Movement (6 points), focusing on bones, muscles, and movement mechanics, SSEH1102 Applied Anatomy and Athletic Performance (6 points), which links anatomy to exercise performance, and SSEH1103 Physical Fitness and Health (6 points), which introduces principles of fitness, health, and physical activity. Students who do not meet mathematics requirements may also complete MATH1720 Mathematics Fundamentals (6 points). In Level 2, students progress to applied study through SSEH2201 Exercise Prescription and Delivery (6 points), SSEH2260 Exercise Physiology (6 points), SSEH2270 Psychology of Motivation (6 points), and SSEH2280 Applied Nutrition for Sport, Exercise and Health (6 points), developing an understanding of training, behaviour, and health science. In Level 3, advanced units such as SSEH3366 Bioenergetics in Exercise, Nutrition and Energy Balance (6 points), SSEH3388 Promoting Lifelong Physical Activity (6 points), SSEH3553 Exercise as Medicine (6 points), and SSEH3555 Motor Development: Principles to Teaching in Practice (6 points) prepare students for careers in health promotion, exercise science, rehabilitation, and physical activity leadership.
