COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is designed to build strong scientific knowledge and laboratory skills through progressive levels of study. At Level 1, students develop a foundation in chemistry, molecular biology, and scientific analysis through core units such as Chemistry—Properties and Energetics and Molecular Biology of the Cell. Students also choose introductory studies in cellular biochemistry or chemistry structure and reactivity, alongside units focusing on science, society, data analysis, or statistics. Bridging units are available for students who do not meet prerequisite requirements in chemistry or mathematics, including Introductory Chemistry, Mathematics Fundamentals, and Mathematics Foundations: Methods, ensuring all students are prepared for higher-level scientific study. At Level 2, the program focuses on the biochemistry and molecular biology of cells, emphasizing cellular regulation, biochemical pathways, and the molecular mechanisms that control cell function. Level 3 provides advanced specialization through units in molecular biology, structural and functional biochemistry, omics technologies, and cellular biochemistry. These subjects explore complex biological systems, global approaches to cell function, and modern biochemical research techniques. Throughout the course, students gain theoretical understanding, analytical thinking, and practical laboratory experience, preparing them for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, forensic science, and other scientific industries.
