COURSE CURRICULUM

The Korean Studies course is structured across three progressive levels that combine language development with cultural and social understanding of Korea. At Level 1, students complete foundational language units, including KORE1401 Korean 1 and KORE1402 Korean 2, which build essential skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening while introducing students to Korean communication and culture. Level 2 advances language proficiency through KORE2403 Korean 3 and KORE2404 Korean 4, enabling students to engage with more complex grammar, vocabulary, and conversation. Students also study KORE2811 Korean Culture from Koryo to K-pop, a unit that explores Korea’s historical development, traditions, and modern cultural influence, including the rise of Korean popular culture worldwide. At Level 3, the course focuses on advanced language mastery and contemporary social analysis. Students complete KORE3405 Korean 5 and KORE3406 Korean 6, which strengthen fluency and comprehension in academic and real-life contexts. They also undertake ASIA3006 Contemporary Korean Society, examining current social, political, and cultural issues shaping modern Korea. Together, these units provide students with strong linguistic abilities and a comprehensive understanding of Korea’s history, society, and global significance through an interdisciplinary academic approach.
