COURSE CURRICULUM

The Indigenous Knowledge, History and Heritage course is structured across three levels to develop a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and knowledge systems in Australia. In Level 1, students complete core foundational units including INDG1150 Aboriginal Encounters: Strangers in our Backyard (6 points), which explores early interactions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and INDG1160 Boodjar Moort Katitjin: Introduction to Indigenous Heritage and Knowledge (6 points), which introduces Indigenous cultural frameworks and ways of knowing. In Level 2, students study the core unit INDG2300 Indigenous Knowledge: Mind, Body and Spirit (6 points), which deepens understanding of holistic Indigenous worldviews, and select 12 points from options such as INDG2500 Moving North: Colonisation and Resistance in Western Australia (6 points), INDG2600 Indigenous Representation: Cultural Heritage and The Museum (6 points), INDG2700 Knowing Country: The Dreaming and Darwin (6 points), INDG2800 Indigenous Ways of Knowing 2 (6 points), LAWS2225 Indigenous Peoples and the Law (6 points), or ARTF2000 Curatorial Practices in Contemporary Arts (6 points). In Level 3, students complete INDG3300 Indigenous Research (6 points), focusing on ethical and community-based research methods, and choose 12 points from advanced units such as HIST3014 Intimate Strangers: Journeys in Indigenous Australian History (6 points), INDG3400 Indigenous People and Global Issues (6 points), or INDG3800 Indigenous Ways of Knowing 3 (6 points). This structure builds cultural understanding, critical thinking, and applied research skills.
