COURSE CURRICULUM

The History major is structured across three levels and offers students a flexible program of study that explores global, regional, and thematic histories. At Level 1, students select introductory units such as Clash of Empires, Love, Belief, and Death in Europe 800–1800, Europe to Hell and Back 1890–1945, The History of Human Rights, or Environmental History, which provide foundational knowledge of major historical periods and themes. At Level 2, students choose from a wide range of specialised topics including Hitler, the Holocaust and the Historians, Imperial America 1845 to Present, Thinking History: The Future of the Past, Britain and Ireland: The Making and Breaking, Medieval and Early Modern Women, Looking for Australia, The History of Sport, Who Do We Think We Are? Doing Family History, Australian Underbelly, American Outlaws, and Renaissance, Reformation, Revolt 1450–1650. These units allow deeper exploration of political, social, cultural, and global histories. At Level 3, students complete History in 4D and select advanced electives such as Twentieth-century Britain, Crime and Punishment in Britain 1600–1900, African History, Pax Britannica, Indigenous Australian History, Mysticism, Melancholy and Madness, History of Christianity, or Russia and the Soviet Union. Overall, the course develops strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills for diverse careers.
