COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Arts course structure is designed to progressively develop students’ creative, technical, and conceptual skills through intensive studio practice and theoretical study. In Level 1, students complete core foundational units including ARTF1052 Fine Arts Studio: Record, Visualise & Imagine (6 points), which introduces creative processes and visual experimentation, ARTF1053 Digital Art and Object Making (6 points), focusing on digital technologies and material practices, ARTF1054 Drawing Foundations (6 points), which develops observational and conceptual drawing skills, and HART1003 Ways of Seeing: Themes and Theories in Art (6 points), which explores major artistic ideas and critical theories. In Level 2, students choose 18 points of studio-based options from areas such as moving images, animation, BioArt, environmental art, painting, photography, and curatorial practices, with at least one advanced studio-focused unit required. Students also complete 6 points of art history or curatorial studies options, exploring topics such as contemporary art, global modernisms, museum studies, and international art tours. In Level 3, students undertake the core ARTF3050 Advanced Major Project (12 points), allowing them to produce an independent creative project that reflects their artistic identity and professional direction. Students also select an advanced studio option such as immersive film, art and biotechnologies, environmental art, or advanced studio practice. This structure combines hands-on creative development with critical and theoretical engagement in contemporary art practices.
