COURSE CURRICULUM

The English and Literary Studies course is structured across three levels to develop students’ skills in critical reading, creative thinking, and literary analysis across a wide range of texts and media. In Level 1, students select 12 points from introductory units such as ENGL1000 Global Literatures (6 points), which explores writing from different cultures, ENGL1002 Literary Classics (6 points), which introduces foundational texts in the literary canon, ENGL1401 Narrative in the Digital Age (6 points), which examines storytelling in modern digital formats, ENGL1501 Reading Creatively/Writing Creatively (6 points), which develops both analytical and creative writing skills, and ENGL1902 Reading Bodies (6 points), which explores representations of the body in literature and culture. In Level 2, students choose 12 points from units including ENGL2200 Jane Austen and her Legacy (6 points), ENGL2208 Literary Rebels (6 points), ENGL2210 Cinema Classics (6 points), ENGL2220 Speculative Fiction, Fantasy, and Science Fiction (6 points), ENGL2401 Netflix: Cinema and Long-form Television (6 points), and ENGL2501 Creative Writing: Theory and Practice (6 points). In Level 3, students complete 24 points from advanced units such as ENGL3001 Poetry and Poetics (6 points), ENGL3200 Writing/Environment (6 points), ENGL3300 Australian Literature and Cinema (6 points), ENGL3602 Shakespeare: Page, Stage, Screen (6 points), ENGL3604 Victorian Dreams and the Technological World (6 points), and ENGL3801 Advanced Literary Theory (6 points), building expertise in literature, theory, and creative expression.
