COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communication course is structured across three levels to build a balance of theoretical understanding and practical media production skills. In Level 1, students complete foundational core units including COMM1001 Power, Participation and Meaning (6 points), which explores how media shapes society and communication, and COMM1002 Cultures, New Media and Communications (6 points), which examines the role of digital media and cultural expression in contemporary life. In Level 2, students progress to core units such as COMM2001 Media Influence (6 points), focusing on the impact of media on audiences and society, and COMM2002 Media Production Techniques (6 points), which develops hands-on skills in media creation. Students also select one option unit from COMM2004 Journalism Practice and Emerging Audiences (6 points) or COMM2006 Communication Strategy and Engagement (6 points), allowing specialisation in journalism or strategic communication. In Level 3, students undertake advanced core study through COMM3001 Media Enterprise in Transition (6 points), which examines changing media industries, and COMM3002 Media Production Project (6 points), which involves creating a substantial media work. Students also choose one advanced option unit from COMM3003 Designing Interactive Media (6 points) or COMM3006 Media Innovation and Social Futures (6 points). This structure prepares graduates for careers in media, journalism, digital communication, and creative industries.
