COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Geography course is structured across three levels to build a strong understanding of global social, economic, political, and environmental processes that shape places and communities. In Level 1, students complete core introductory units including GEOG1104 Disasters! (6 points), which examines natural and human-induced hazards and their impacts on societies, and GEOG1107 Global Human Inequality (6 points), which explores patterns and causes of inequality across different regions of the world. In Level 2, students study core units such as GEOG2203 Regions in Transition (6 points), focusing on regional change and development, and GEOG2206 Population Change: Debates and Controversies (6 points), which investigates demographic trends and their social implications. Students also select one option worth 6 points, choosing between GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6 points), which introduces spatial analysis tools, or GEOG2202 Reading Landscapes: People and Processes (6 points), which develops skills in interpreting human-environment relationships. In Level 3, students complete advanced core units including GEOG3308 Climate Change: Policy and Practice (6 points), GEOG3311 Geographies of Economic Development (6 points), and GEOG3312 Migrants, Refugees and Borders (6 points), which explore global challenges such as sustainability, inequality, and migration. This structure ensures students develop analytical, spatial, and critical thinking skills to understand complex human and environmental systems.
