COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Sport and Exercise (Research) at UTS provides students with the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in sport and exercise science through a tailored research program. At the start of the course, students collaborate with their supervisors and the Faculty of Health to design a research pathway that aligns with their interests and career aspirations. This personalized approach allows students to focus on topics ranging from performance enhancement and athlete wellbeing to public health initiatives and exercise interventions for diverse populations. Throughout the program, students are guided by expert mentors who provide advice, supervision, and feedback as they carry out their chosen research over multiple years. Students gain hands-on experience in designing studies, collecting and analyzing data, and applying evidence-based practices in real-world contexts. Regular presentations to panels of experts allow students to refine their research, strengthen their analytical skills, and demonstrate progress in their field. The program culminates in the submission of a research thesis or practice-led project, such as a policy proposal or whitepaper, which reflects each student’s original contribution to sport and exercise science. The curriculum also includes a core unit in Research and Statistics for Sport and Exercise, providing foundational skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and interpretation. Students benefit from UTS’ advanced research facilities, access to workshops, and connection to national and international networks, which enhance their ability to engage with current issues and innovations in the discipline. By the completion of the degree, graduates emerge with the knowledge, practical research experience, and professional skills required to influence practice, policy, and academic research, preparing them for impactful careers in sport science, exercise research, public health, and related fields.
