COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Property Development and Planning at UTS can be completed over two years full-time or four years part-time, offering flexibility to suit a range of professional and personal commitments. The program is centred around a comprehensive suite of core subjects that develop essential capabilities across both property development and urban planning, ensuring graduates gain a well-rounded understanding of regulatory, financial, design, economic and environmental aspects of development. Throughout the course, students engage with a broad selection of subjects that focus on planning and environmental law, sustainable urban development, urban economics, infrastructure planning, finance, spatial analysis, property transactions, urban design, investment strategies, and risk analysis. These subjects provide practical and theoretical foundations that allow students to understand how planning decisions are made, how development projects are evaluated, and how economic feasibility and sustainability are integrated into real-world development processes. In addition to core theory, students undertake significant applied project work. The program culminates in either a major project or a minor project combined with an elective, enabling students to create an original, research-supported planning or development proposal. This component offers hands-on experience highly valued within industry, allowing students to demonstrate their ability to apply strategic thinking, technical analysis, and professional judgement to a realistic urban development scenario. Throughout the course, students also participate in group project subjects that simulate real-life planning and development challenges, including greenfield development and urban renewal, giving them opportunities to work collaboratively and build skills in negotiation, communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making.By integrating multiple areas of knowledge, the Master of Property Development and Planning prepares graduates to navigate the complexities of contemporary urban environments and contribute effectively to shaping sustainable and economically responsible developments. The program equips students with practical tools and analytical frameworks necessary for diverse careers across property development, planning, consulting, investment, government and urban policy.
