COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Legal Studies offers a flexible learning experience designed to suit a range of professional and personal commitments, with delivery options available both online and in person. This course is structured to be completed in two years full-time or four years part-time, allowing students to balance study with work and other responsibilities. Throughout the degree, you will develop a solid grounding in the foundations of law and build an understanding of the contemporary Australian legal system. In the early stages of the program, you will complete core subjects that introduce key areas of legal knowledge, including administrative, Constitutional and criminal law, forming a strong foundation for more specialised study. The program is highly customisable, giving you the opportunity to shape your learning pathway according to your interests and career goals. You can choose from a diverse list of subjects, enabling study in interdisciplinary and emerging fields such as animal law, commercial equity and environmental law. The degree typically consists of six core Legal Studies subjects and eight Legal Studies option subjects. In the first year, the focus will be on establishing essential legal knowledge, with core subjects that may include contracts, Constitutional law and company law. In the second year, you will tailor your studies further by selecting eight subjects from a wide and varied range of offerings. These options may include areas such as disability and the law, feminist legal theories, negotiation skills and patent law, giving you the chance to explore specialised professional interests or expand into new domains. This flexible and comprehensive structure ensures that graduates are equipped with the legal understanding and analytical skills necessary to respond effectively to complex legal issues across a variety of industries.
