COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Data Science and Innovation at UTS equips students with advanced skills in analytics, programming, machine learning, and data visualisation, preparing them for the rapidly growing demand for data professionals across industries. This transdisciplinary program blends technical expertise with critical soft skills such as strategic thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and ethical decision-making, empowering graduates to become leaders and innovators in data-driven fields.The course is delivered through a combination of contemporary online and face-to-face learning, utilising UTS’s leading-edge facilities. Industry partnerships play a central role, with the curriculum and subjects co-designed with academic experts and industry partners to ensure graduates gain skills that are current, practical, and highly valued in the workforce. Students work on real datasets and projects, translating theoretical knowledge into hands-on, applied solutions.Students complete 96 credit points, including 40 credit points of compulsory subjects and 56 credit points of electives. Core subjects include Data Science for Innovation, Statistical Thinking for Data Science, Machine Learning Algorithms and Applications, and Data Visualisation and Narratives. Elective subjects and Innovation Labs projects allow students to tailor their learning to their professional interests and career goals, while gaining exposure to emerging trends and technologies.Through project-based learning, collaboration, and engagement with industry, students develop the ability to analyse complex socio-technical systems, communicate insights to diverse audiences, and drive change in real-world contexts.
