COURSE CURRICULUM

The UTS Juris Doctor program consists of a total of 144 credit points, structured to provide students with comprehensive legal knowledge and opportunities for academic specialisation. The curriculum includes 108 credit points of compulsory core law subjects, comprising 15 foundational courses that cover essential areas of legal study such as constitutional law, contracts, torts, criminal law, property law, administrative law, and civil procedure. These core subjects ensure students develop a thorough understanding of legal principles, analytical reasoning, and professional skills required for legal practice. In addition to the compulsory component, students complete 30 credit points of Juris Doctor elective subjects, equivalent to five law option courses, allowing them to explore specialised areas aligned with their interests and career aspirations. Elective offerings enable students to broaden their expertise in emerging and advanced fields of law while tailoring the program to their professional goals. The course also includes a 6-credit-point Legal Theory option, which encourages critical engagement with the philosophical, ethical, and theoretical foundations of law, enhancing students’ ability to evaluate legal systems and contemporary legal issues. Together, the core subjects, electives, and legal theory component provide a balanced, rigorous, and flexible curriculum that prepares graduates for legal practice and a wide range of careers requiring advanced legal knowledge and analytical skills.
