COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed to prepare students for initial employment in the human movement and exercise science field by developing both the practical skills needed for professional roles and the analytical abilities necessary to critically evaluate new research and developments in the discipline. To complete the degree, students must undertake at least 144 credit points across 24 subjects, selecting either four electives or a major that aligns with their intended career direction to complement the core subjects. The curriculum provides a comprehensive scientific foundation through subjects such as Structural Anatomy, Functional Anatomy and Physiological Bases of Human Movement, which together build a detailed understanding of how the human body functions and adapts during physical activity. Biomechanics of Human Motion and Applied Biomechanics introduce students to the mechanical principles that govern movement, while Exercise Physiology deepens knowledge of metabolic and physiological responses to training. Practical skill development is emphasised in subjects like Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Prescription and Motor Learning and Control, where students learn to design and implement effective exercise programs for diverse populations. Broader health and behavioural components are covered in units such as Health and Lifespan Development, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Health Promotion and Physical Activity and Nutrition for Health and Physical Activity, providing insight into developmental, psychological and lifestyle factors that influence participation, performance and overall wellbeing. Students also gain essential research and data-handling skills through Research Methods for Sport and Exercise and Data Management in Sport and Exercise, enabling them to interpret evidence and apply data-driven decision-making in real-world contexts. Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking supports the development of teamwork, communication and problem-solving abilities that are vital for professional practice. Together, these subjects provide a strong and well-balanced foundation, preparing graduates to pursue careers in sport, fitness, health promotion, rehabilitation support and other human movement fields, or to continue into further study in related health disciplines.
