COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to begin a career in the human movement and exercise science field, while also fostering strong analytical abilities needed to critically evaluate new developments in sport, exercise and health. Students complete a total of 144 credit points across 24 subjects, choosing either four elective subjects or a major that aligns with their preferred professional pathway, allowing them to tailor the degree to their career goals. The core subjects provide a comprehensive foundation in the scientific and applied aspects of human movement. Students begin with subjects such as Structural Anatomy, Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics of Human Motion, which build an understanding of the body’s structure and mechanical function. Physiological Bases of Human Movement and Exercise Physiology deepen knowledge of how the body responds to physical activity and training. The program emphasises practical application through units like Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Prescription, Applied Biomechanics and Motor Learning and Control, ensuring students are capable of designing and delivering evidence-based exercise programs. Broader health and behavioural influences are explored in subjects such as Health and Lifespan Development, Health Promotion and Physical Activity, Nutrition for Health and Sport and Exercise Psychology, which together provide insight into developmental, motivational and lifestyle factors that influence participation and performance. Students also develop strong research capabilities through Research Methods for Sport and Exercise and gain valuable technical skills in Data Management in Sport and Exercise, preparing them to work with data-driven approaches in sport and health settings. Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking supports the development of transferable skills essential for professional teamwork and problem-solving. Through this blend of scientific knowledge, applied practice and research training, the course prepares graduates for diverse roles in sport, fitness, health promotion and human movement, and provides a solid foundation for further study in allied health or specialised exercise science fields.
