COURSE CURRICULUM
This course provides students with broad, coherent and scientifically grounded knowledge in psychology, preparing them for a range of future-focused careers and for contributing to the growing need for a skilled mental health workforce. Throughout the program, students develop transferable abilities that extend beyond traditional psychology, including skills related to human-machine interaction, ageing and lifespan development, behavioural insights, data analysis, people management, leadership and neuroscience. The curriculum is designed to be culturally informed, with an Indigenous graduate attribute integrated across all subjects to ensure students learn to work respectfully, effectively and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The core subjects build a strong foundation across key areas of psychology. Students begin with Introduction to Psychology A and B, followed by Developmental Psychology, which explores behavioural and cognitive changes across the lifespan. Research literacy is developed through subjects such as Research Methods in Psychology and Research Design and Statistics in Psychology, equipping students with essential skills to conduct and analyse psychological research. Topics such as Mental Health Conditions and Psychological Wellbeing and Health Psychology provide insights into the causes, impacts and treatments of various psychological and physical health issues. The program also covers cognitive and biological bases of behaviour through subjects including Perception and Cognition and Brain and Behaviour. Students develop understanding of personality and assessment in Individual Differences and Psychological Assessment, and gain exposure to specialty areas through units such as Positive Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Social Psychology. Psychology Career Readiness supports students in developing a professional identity and preparing for pathways after graduation. Together, these subjects offer a comprehensive and contemporary education in psychology, providing students with the knowledge, cultural awareness and practical skills needed to pursue further study or enter diverse roles where understanding human behaviour is central.
