COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical Science with a major in Medical and Health-related Sciences at UTS provides students with a comprehensive scientific education and practical experience designed to prepare them for careers in medical research, healthcare, and allied scientific fields. Students begin by completing core science subjects, gaining essential knowledge and skills in areas such as chemistry, molecular biology, data analysis, cell biology, and human physiology. These foundational studies are conducted in state-of-the-art facilities, including the Hive Super Lab, the UTS Science Super Lab, and the specialised anatomy lab, offering collaborative, technology-driven learning environments that enhance both theoretical understanding and practical laboratory skills.Following the core subjects, students progress to their major studies, developing expertise in disciplines such as pharmacology, medical devices, immunology, haematology, anatomy, and pathophysiology. This stage of the program focuses on applying scientific knowledge to understand the human body, disease mechanisms, and medical technologies, ensuring graduates are prepared to address real-world healthcare challenges. Students are also required to complete a hands-on project in their final year, allowing them to develop science communication skills and demonstrate the ability to conduct research independently.To further enhance their education, students can select four electives and have opportunities to gain practical experience through workplace placements and internships, bridging the gap between academic study and professional practice. The combination of rigorous scientific training, laboratory experience, and practical exposure equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical capabilities, and professional competencies necessary to pursue postgraduate study or enter a variety of careers in medical and health sciences.
