The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at UTS offers a structured pathway for high-achieving students to extend their knowledge and analytical abilities beyond the standard law degree. As an exit-only program available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws, it is designed to deepen your understanding of legal principles, enhance your research capabilities and prepare you for more advanced roles in the legal profession. The program provides two distinct avenues for study. You may choose to specialise in Legal Futures and Technology, a rapidly growing area that examines how digital innovation, automation, data, emerging technologies and industry disruptors influence and reshape the legal landscape. This stream is ideal for students interested in the intersection between technology and law, including issues such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, online regulation and digital rights. Alternatively, you can opt for the research thesis pathway, where you will undertake an in-depth investigation into a legal topic of your choice, supported by Option subjects aligned with your research interests. These may include areas such as criminology, privacy, media law, jurisprudence and other contemporary fields of legal scholarship.Throughout your studies, you will draw on foundational legal subjects such as Contracts, Torts, Property, Criminal Law, Evidence, Remedies, Public International Law and Constitutional Law, ensuring that your research or specialisation builds upon a strong disciplinary base. Working under the supervision of an experienced academic, you will learn to critically engage with legal sources, construct sophisticated arguments and produce a substantial piece of scholarly writing.
