COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology provides a structured and comprehensive learning experience designed to prepare you for a wide range of roles within the IT profession. Throughout the course, you will develop the skills needed to work effectively in organisational environments where information systems and technologies play a critical role. You will learn how to function as an information systems professional capable of integrating packaged software solutions within business units, addressing organisational needs without developing systems from scratch. At the same time, the course equips you with the knowledge required of information technology professionals who do develop systems from first principles, giving you a deeper understanding of programming, system design and technical implementation. For those interested in networks, the degree also introduces you to the work of network specialists who build, maintain and administer complex network architectures that support modern organisations. Additionally, the course supports pathways into technical research careers, helping you build foundational knowledge in computing that can be extended through honours or postgraduate study. To complete the degree, you must finish 144 credit points across a carefully structured range of subjects. Core subjects introduce essential IT competencies, including Communication for IT Professionals, Professional Practice in Computing, Web Systems, Business Requirements Modelling, Network Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals and Project Management and the Professional. These subjects provide the groundwork for understanding how systems are built, analysed, implemented and maintained, while also strengthening your ability to collaborate, communicate and manage projects effectively. Across your studies, you will be exposed to real-world scenarios, industry practices and problem-solving tasks that mirror the challenges faced by IT professionals. By the time you complete the course, you will be capable of contributing to diverse organisational environments and ready to pursue roles in systems integration, software development, networking or computing research.
