COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to use information systems as a force for positive and sustainable change across business, government, health, community organisations and non-profit sectors. The course focuses on the transformative potential of technology in shaping resilient environmental, economic and social outcomes. Students are required to complete 144 credit points, which include 60 credit points of core Information Systems subjects, 36 credit points of studio-based subjects that emphasise practical, hands-on learning, and one compulsory stream choice that allows for specialisation within the discipline. Additionally, 24 credit points of electives enable students to broaden their expertise or explore complementary areas of interest. The core subjects provide a strong foundation across key areas of the field, including Introduction to Information Systems, Communication for IT Professionals, Programming Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Fundamentals, Business Intelligence and Project Management and the Professional. Students also develop competencies in Finance for IT Professionals, Introduction to Data Analytics, IS Data Visualisation, Business Process and IT Strategy, Business Requirements Modelling and Information Systems Development Methodologies, ensuring a balanced understanding of both technical and organisational perspectives. The inclusion of subjects such as Leading Creative Innovation, Innovation in Complex Systems and Futuring for Innovation with Impact prepares students to think strategically and anticipate future industry challenges. The program culminates in the Information Systems Capstone, where students synthesise their learning through real-world projects that demonstrate their analytical, technical and strategic abilities. Overall, the BIS program provides a comprehensive, future-focused education that prepares graduates to design, manage and enhance information systems that support sustainable growth, innovation and improved outcomes across a wide range of industries and sectors.
