COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Forensic Science Bachelor of Laws at UTS is a 240-credit-point dual degree that leads to the award of two separate qualifications: the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and the Bachelor of Forensic Science (BForSc). The law component accounts for 144 credit points and is designed to provide a comprehensive legal education. It includes 108 credit points of compulsory core law subjects that build foundational knowledge in areas such as legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, and key areas of Australian law. Students then complete 30 credit points of law options, which can include either traditional law electives or legal futures and technology subjects, allowing some flexibility to explore emerging areas of legal practice. In addition, a 6-credit-point legal theory subject develops deeper understanding of the philosophical and conceptual foundations of law. The forensic science component consists of 96 credit points, including 42 credit points of core forensic science subjects that introduce scientific principles and forensic methods used in criminal investigations. Students also complete a 54-credit-point major in one of four specialist forensic disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, crime scene investigation, or digital forensic science, allowing them to develop focused technical expertise. This integrated structure ensures graduates are equipped with both strong legal training and scientific investigative skills, preparing them for interdisciplinary careers in law, criminal justice, forensic analysis, and related professional fields.
